On average every 29.5 days, which is the length of the synodic lunar month. Most years have 12 full moons. Occasionally a 13th appears, and the second full moon in one calendar month is called a “blue moon”.
Why does the full moon affect sleep?
Studies suggest people may fall asleep a little later and sleep slightly shorter around full moon nights, likely due to brighter evening light and subtle circadian effects. Individual sensitivity varies a lot.
